- There are altogether 3 devices launched in the event.
- The OnePlus 9 series was launched through an exclusive live streaming event owing to the novel coronavirus outbreak in the world.
The Chinese smartphone giant launched its hugely anticipated next generation flagship, the OnePlus 9 series, after a lot of good leaks and teasers with some from OnePlus CEO Pete Lau. With today’s launch, the OnePlus 9 series earns a significant upgrade to the camera unit, thanks to a collaboration with Hasselblad – a leading manufacturer of digital medium format cameras and lenses.
This is the first time that OnePlus will deliver three products in a row in the history of OnePlus. There is a standard OnePlus 9 edition, and two other variants will also be available.
As a result of the coronavirus outbreak in the world, the OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, and OnePlus 9R were launched today evening through an exclusive live streaming on the company’s official website and YouTube channel. We’re covering the high-end models i.e., OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 pro in this article.
OnePlus 9 Pro
The OnePlus 9 Pro is the star of the show, with ultra-premium hardware carved into it. OnePlus had maintained their pledge to have a handset with the best display for the upcoming flagship for 2021.
OnePlus is now attacking some of the market’s major rivals, such as the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 Pro Max was also mentioned during the launch event. It is rare to hear the names of other brands at a launch event.
OnePlus is best known for providing minimalistic design for its smartphones, and the stunning 9 Pro is dubbed “Burdenless Design” by OnePlus. The display is also stunning, with 3D curved glass windows, Gorilla Glass 5, and a slim aluminum frame on the side that snugly keeps the screen in place. We predicted Gorilla Glass Victus with the OnePlus 9 Pro because POCO just launched their product yesterday with very low pricing and Gorilla Glass Victus.
The screen has a huge 6.7-inch AMOLED display with Quad HD+ resolution and refresh rates of up to 120Hz, and with the display’s LTPO technology, it allows conversion between 1Hz and 120Hz. LTPO is a growing benchmark for the flagship market, and they do some interesting power optimization in the background.
OnePlus isn’t the only organization looking to work with any amazing camera firms. On a variety of devices, we’ve seen this on a daily basis. However, what OnePlus is serving is fantastic. Hasselblad is a company with more than a century of experience, and their final product incorporates some very interesting technology. Having them throughout the OnePlus 9 series is the biggest and smartest choice OnePlus has made in terms of the camera unit so far.

The Hasselblad partnership, according to OnePlus, is a multi-year initiative that goes way further than touching a logo on top of your smartphone. The two firms work together on a software basis during the first year of the partnership. In two to three years this will finally hit a hardware level, says OnePlus.
In terms of specifics, the OnePlus 9 Pro’s main camera sensor is a Sony IMX789 sensor with a 48MP lens. The primary sensor supports 12-bit raw capture and is combined with an optical image stabilizer module to control the user-induced movement for improved results and dynamic colors. The secondary camera has a 50MP Ultra-wide lens on Sony IMX766 image sensor, with distortion-free outputs (down to 1 percent ). The third camera is an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3.3x optical zoom and optical image stabilization (OIS). Then there’s the 2MP monochrome lens, which is a showoff standard on the market to offer “quad-camera” branding. For selfies, a 16MP fixed-focus front camera should satisfy your demands.
With the OnePlus 9 Pro, they are using the natural color calibration from Hasselblad to produce real-life colors while shooting through the primary lens. With Hasselblad’s image processing technology, calibration is implemented at sensor level. Additionally, the camera application has Hasselblad signature “click” sound into it.
OnePlus 9 Pro can shoot video at 8K @ 30fps and 4K video @120fps. The device also has a night dedicated mode to shoot a crisp and natural video.
To summarize the device’s performance, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, which produces excellent results when partnered with Oxygen OS. Since its release, Oxygen OS has been a fan favorite, and the great hardware and software combination provides a powerful experience.
OnePlus 9
The OnePlus 9 is the cheapest sibling for the OnePlus 9 Pro this year. With a high-end touchscreen, state-of-the-art charge technologies and a modern camera set-up that was upgraded in collaboration with Hasselblad, OnePlus 9 offers a high-end kit on the board.
The OnePlus 9 has the flat AMOLED panel, an FHD+ resolution, a peak brightness of 1,100 nits, HDR10+ certification, and a 120Hz refresh rate. While some applications, such as YouTube, don’t allow higher display refresh speeds, the phone immediately shifts to 60Hz when browsing via such applications.
With a triple camera system at the back, the OnePlus 9 joins its high-end twin. The OnePlus 9 still packs the 50MP Ultra-Wide sensor, and the other majority of the camera specifications are identical. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor is also present.
If you’re not a curved panel fan, OnePlus 9 is your perfect pick. The OnePlus 9 is provided with a flat screen. Compared to the OnePlus 9 Pro, it has a fiberglass polymer case. It packs a 4500 mAh battery and supports Warp Charge 65T and 15W Qi wireless charging (North America and Europe only).
You can capture up to 8K video at 30 frames per second with the OnePlus 9. Such interesting features include Nightscape Video 2.0, which has much higher accuracy in low-light situations, and often slow-motion video is always entertaining.
