IPL 2020 UAE
The Indian Premier League 2020, 13th edition of the league is going to be held in the U.A.E. The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) announced the tournament 19th September 2020 to 10th November 2020 and played in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi instead in India due to the prevailing situation of Covid-19 pandemic. The Indian government has permitted for conducting this 2020 edition out of the country in the U.A.E.
The very popular IPL was originally scheduled on 29th March, 2020 and got suspended indefinitely due the strict lockdown in India since 9th April, 2020 to fight with coronavirus. Taking account of continuous growth in positive cases of Covid-19 virus in India day by day and government decision not to conduct any sports tournament in 2020, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had to give the host to U.A.E. Though it is not the first time IPL being played in U.A.E., 20 matches of league held in U.A.E. in 2014 due to general election in India. The schedule of the league stage is published though the schedule of the playoffs will be announced later. The opening match is between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 19th September, 2020 at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi at 6:00 PM (Dubai time). The day matches are starting at 2:00 PM whereas the evening matches are starting at 6:00 PM. The final match of the league is going to be held on 10th November, 2020 at 6:00 PM.
In IPL season, the team can have a maximum of 24 players, the player can be replaced if any of the players get positive with Coronavirus. BCCI have announced there will be more than 20,000 Covid-19 tests worth USD 1.4 million during the test. There will be a high level of bio-secure environment and precautions taken to conduct it successfully.
It is predicted that there will not be higher scores than usual and some of the big players are not able to join the season this year.
