If it needs to pick the top smartphones of the year, Apple iPhone’s are the device that never loses the spot.
The new iPhone 12 is identical to the iPhone 11 with a notch and a rounded corner, but the major highlight is the architecture, which has been entirely revamped. With the latest boxy look, the handset is marginally smaller and lighter than the previous iPhone 11, making it look super premium and redesigned.
iPhone 12: In detail
The new iPhone 12 is backed by aluminum rails on either side of the smartphone that houses a 6.1-inch Retina OLED screen and a glass back, which gives the visual appearance of the premiums. Apple has agreed to improve the power-button size for the convenience of consumers, and the device has an IP rating for dust and water resistance.
Moving on to the display is coated with ceramic shield Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and Oleophobic coating which give 4 times drop protection than any other displays out in the market. Similarly, the handset weighs 164g and is built on a thickness of 7.4 mm. Plus, the display supports Dolby vision, allowing you the ability to shoot HDR videos.
Performance & Storage:
We think it is fair enough to call Apple a synonym for productivity and performance. iPhone has never disappointed us with its smooth UI. The iPhone 12 debuts with the new iOS 14.1 and is braced by the A14 bionic chip. A14 is Apple’s first 5nm SoC, where the CPU and GPU performance of the chipset is boosted by almost 20%. By beating the entire benchmark scores in CPU and GPU units, the A14 bionic chip is leading the SoC industry.
The configurations available for iPhone 12 are – 4GB of RAM and 64/128/256GB of internal storage without the support of an external SD card.
Battery & Charging:
For battery backup, iPhones are quite good – all thanks to the amazing iOS. It packs a 2,815mAh non-removable battery and supports 20W fast charging and 15W MagSafe wireless charging. Since iPhone 12 display resolutions are improved while having a smaller battery, it can provide 6 hours of screen time comfortably. MagSafe is a new feature added to the new iPhones that can be called a replica of wireless charging.
Cameras receive hardware, software and processor updates for every new iPhone Apple announces. Most phones announced these days have a quad-camera system and a feature such as 100x space zoom that these iPhones lack, but iPhone 12 can take real, crisp images with better color accuracy than most other smartphones.
The iPhone 12 has a dual camera configuration with a main 12 MP, f/1.6, 26 mm (wide) lens, and a 12 MP, f/2.4 ultra-wide lens with a 120 deg field of view sensor (FOV). It can shoot videos with stereo sound recording at 4K@24/30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/120/240fps, and supports HDR, Dolby Vision HDR (up to 30fps).
The front camera is 12 MP, f/2.2, 23mm (wide) and can shoot video at 4K@24/30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps with gyro-EIS – a mechanism for video stabilization.
With the exception of the telephoto and lidar lens, iPhone 12 has the very same cameras as the iPhone 12 Pro. But in order to take decent images and videos, these phones are not only based on hardware. The new A14 Bionic chip from Apple adds enhancements to it, along with software and machine learning.

The iPhone 12 is a good phone, but the only component lacking with the purchase is an in-box charger. Apple has skipped providing the charger in the box raising environmental concerns. But the fact is, potential customers wanting to join the Apple community will also have to buy the charger individually, costing a few extra bucks to boost the device’s overall expense. The divisive moves by Apple seem to spread like ripples across the industry, and most certainly this one will.
