Emirates’ Free COVID-19 Cover

Emirates Airline has become the world’s first airline to offer new insurance with free global cover on Covid-19 related medical expenses and quarantine costs. It will also cover funeral expenses if passengers get infected by Coronavirus while travelling. Travellers can travel to another destination confidently and feel extra safe on the journey. They made this announcement to reduce the passenger’s fear of flying.

This cover is effective from 23 July 2020 to 31 October 2020 for all customers travelling on any travel class. No separate registration is required to get the benefit of it. This cover is valid for 31 days from the time the passenger takes the first flight on their journey, no matter wherever you are within this span. It will cover COVID-19 health expenses up to EUR 150,000 (approx 650,000 Dirhams) and quarantine costs or hotel charges of EUR 100 (approx 435 Dirhams) per day for 14 days. In case of passenger’s death due to Covid-19, it will provide EUR 1,500 (approx 6,500 Dirhams) as the cost of their funeral. These benefits can be covered automatically if the flights are booked on emirates.com via contact centres, retail offices or with your travel agent.

Emirates Group Chairman and Chief Executive, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said: “Under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Emirates is proud to lead the way in boosting confidence for international travel. We know people are yearning to fly as borders around the world gradually re-open, but they are seeking flexibility and assurances should something unforeseen happen during their travel.”

He also added: “Emirates has worked hard to put in place measures at every step of the customer journey to mitigate risk of infection, and we have also revamped our booking policies to offer flexibility. We are now taking it to the next level, by being the first in the industry to offer our customers free global cover for COVID-19 medical expenses and quarantine costs should they incur these costs during their travel. It is an investment on our part, but we are putting our customers first, and we believe they will welcome this initiative.”

The passengers who get diagnosed with COVID-19 during their travel simply are requested to contact a dedicated hotline to avail of assistance and cover.
